For boxing fans, the heavyweight landscape has been fundamentally reshaped by the confirmation that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will finally meet in the ring later this year.
Following years of speculation and multiple collapsed agreements, renowned boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing and backer His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, confirmed that a deal is "signed, sealed, and delivered," positioning the bout as a top contender for the most anticipated night of boxing on the 2026 sporting calendar. Reflecting the evolving media rights market, the event is set to stream globally on Netflix, marking a significant entry into live combat sports for the digital giant.
Facilitated in close collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, with thanks to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the fight is planned to take place in the Kingdom's capital, as part of the much anticipated 2026/2027 Riyadh Season event's calendar.
The Ultimate Return x2
The announcement comes at a pivotal life moments for both fighters. Tyson Fury, 37, recently returned to the winner's column with a dominant performance against Arslanbek Makhmudov, where earlier this month he used the post-fight platform to issue a direct challenge to a ringside Joshua.
This fight represents a professional and personal homecoming for Joshua; this fight signifies a major return to the ring after a year defined by personal tragedy. Following a car accident in Nigeria that resulted in the loss of his coaches and friends, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele, Joshua has taken time off and has been focused on a period of recovery, mentally, physically and spiritually. He enters this new chapter with a redefined strategy, guided by his mentor and former opponent, Oleksandr Usyk.
When, where and what title?
While November 2026 is the targeted window for the Joshua-Fury clash, the journey will begin with Joshua facing off against Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga on July 25. This bout is again slated to take place in the Saudi Arabian capital city, and is being viewed as a strategic "tune-up" designed to shake off ring rust before the year’s main event.
For the boxing community, the Joshua-Fury fight transcends individual titles: it is a pursuit of a definitive answer to a decade-old question regarding British heavyweight supremacy. As both fighters enter the twilight of their storied careers, this matchup is expected to be the most commercially successful "Battle of Britain" in history. With the contracts now finalised, the focus shifts from the boardroom back to the gym, as the sport prepares for an event that has been ten years in the making.
