Saudi's very first grand opera has officially opened in Riyadh.

From April 25 to May 4, audiences will have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the world premiere of Zarqa Al Yamama, Saudi Arabia's first-ever grand opera, at the prestigious 2700-seat King Fahad Cultural Centre. This historic event promises to captivate spectators with its fusion of captivating music, compelling storytelling, and stunning performances.

At the heart of this anticipated production lies an original score crafted by acclaimed composer Lee Bradshaw, setting the stage for an immersive musical experience. Leading the vocal ensemble is the renowned mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Conolly, whose artistry promises to elevate the performance to unparalleled heights.

Adding a touch of local flavour to the production, the playwright Saleh Zamanan, a celebrated Saudi poet, lends his expertise to the narrative, while performances by Saudi musicians such as Sawsan Al-Bahiti and Khayran Al-Zahrani infuse the opera with authentic cultural resonance.
