The Skytrax World Airline Awards have delivered a definitive victory for European airlines, as Lufthansa was officially named the World's Most Family-Friendly Airline for 2025.
This accolade follows a rigorous evaluation of the total travel experience, from the first interaction at the check-in counter to the final farewell at the arrival gate. The award is designed to measure how effectively an airline removes the friction of traveling with children. The Skytrax auditors assess airline's performances across a wide array of touch-points, including the availability of family seating, dedicated priority boarding, and the quality of children's amenities.
How did Lufthansa top this list?
The German flag carrier’s success was bolstered by its "Best Friend" children’s boarding passes and a new range of onboard toys, such as cloud-shaped blankets for toddlers and educational games like "City, Country, Flight," which engage young minds during long-haul transits.
Ground services played a critical role in the 2025 rankings. Lufthansa’s dedicated family check-in facilities and its streamlined policies for carrycots and pushchairs were cited as industry-leading. By ensuring that families are processed with speed and care, the airline has managed to outpace traditional hospitality giants like Singapore Airlines and Air Canada, which placed fourth and fifth respectively. The audit also highlighted the high standard of service assistance provided by ground and cabin crew, who are specifically trained to handle the unique needs of multi-generational groups.
In addition to onboarding and check-in processes, the German carrier's culinary options for younger guests also set the airline apart. This Skytrax award recognises Lufthansa’s specially created kids' menus, which was developed by chefs at Gate Gourmet, which feature creative tray designs and illustrations of the airline’s mascots, "Lu" and "Cosmo." With an inflight entertainment system offering over 100 dedicated channels for children and a commitment to providing organic baby food and formula on demand, Lufthansa has successfully transformed its cabin environment into a welcoming sanctuary for families, setting a new global standard for the year ahead.
